About this event
The theme for this year’s creative residency, Hypnotica, will explore an eclectic range of improvisational processes, blending traditional instruments with digital sounds and live performance movement. The residency, based at the iconic Brisbane Powerhouse draws inspiration from the sounds and rhythms of traditional Sundanese music of West Java, Indonesia. Featuring traditional Indonesian musician Efiq Zulfiqar, experimental percussionist Yvette Agapow, circus artist/physical performer Mayu Muto, violinist Flora Wong, guitarist/composer Dr Anthony Garcia the creative residency program will invite young and emerging artists to apply for a new emerging artist fellowship designed to support the development of skills in improvisation, intercultural collaboration and live performance.
The general public can catch are rare glimpse of the creative process via an open rehearsal held on the Turbine Platform. Watch artists rehearse live in preparation for the premier of Hypnotica. An ideal opportunity for creatives young and old to experience this unique intercultural arts residency. An intimate Q & A session led by ABCs roving BrisAsia reporter Ashwin Segkar will offering the audience the chance to interact with the artists and explore the creative process in a relaxed conversational manner.
