2e Children - BRIGHT BUT STRUGGLING  


Do you have a child who is bright but it seems there is something else going on that gts in the way of their learning or social development?

If your obviously bright child experiences some (or many) of these:

Struggles with handwriting
Is very disorganised
Can be highly sensitive
Is easily distracted
Show keen visual skills and poor listening skills
Is highly creative, inventive, imaginative
Generates unusual solutions to problems
Has great ideas but rarely completes task
Reads well but is poor at spelling
Has difficulty following oral directions
Gets the correct answer in maths but can’t explain how
Is good at maths concepts but struggles with times tables 

Then this workshop is for you.  

TSpend a full day learning about giftedness will explore the main factors underlying underperformance by bright children, including motivation, processing difficulties, social and emotional factors and a visual spatial thinking strength.We will provide information on identification, discuss the strengths and weaknesses these students posses and explore practical strategies for supporting these students at home and at school.

The workshop will include a display of a range of books and resources that are useful for these students.

There will be opportunities for questions and discussion.


COST:      $85.00 per person   or $115.00 per couple (morning and afternoon tea provided) There are a few cafe's close by where lunch can be purchased.

PRESENTER: Helen Dudeney (M.Ed, Dip. Couns.,COGE,) of The AUSTRALIAN GIFTED SUPPORT CENTRE  is  a private educational consultant specialising in the needs of gifted children.  She has been actively involved in working with gifted children since 1988. Helen has designed and run hundreds of programs for 3 – 16 year old children and their families and conducted seminars, workshops and in service training for parents and teachers about understanding and meeting the needs of gifted children and young people.  This work has extended to all parts of New South Wales, metropolitan and regional, as well as other states of Australia.  Helen is a regular presenter and attendee at State, National and International Gifted Conferences.

Due to her belief in supporting gifted children, she has been actively involved in supporting the establishment and on going activities of many local support groups. She has been a lecturer at Australian Catholic University – Strathfield for 4 years and Murdoch University in Perth for 7 years.  In addition to her consultancy work she has been involved in the NSW Association for Gifted and Talented Children.  For 17 years she was a member of the Association’s Committee holding the position of President for 8 years and Treasurer for 4 years.  She was also Events Co-ordinator for the Association for 12 years and responsible for many of the events that are run including the residential camps.
