Mistrust of government. Divisive politics. Short term thinking.

In recent decades there have been developments in the technology of democratic decisionmaking that might address some of these modern ailments. Come to this month's Bright Ideas talk to hear about these developments as well as some local examples of doing democracy differently.

About the Presenter: Rob Weymouth

Rob Weymouth is currently a PhD Student at the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute. For the previous six years he has worked as the Sustainability Facilitator for the Western Australian Local Government Association where he was responsible for assisting Local Governments and WALGA on their journey toward greater sustainability. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Masters of Sustainability. Rob has been part of the research team involved in fostering deliberative collaborative governance in Geraldton, WA. Currently he is using the innovative Participatory Budgeting panels on 100% of the civic budget as the subject of his doctoral research.
