CIS welcomes NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell for a breakfast event, discussing how we can raise the bar with our teacher workforce

About this event

At CIS, we have long seen education reform as key to our mission. We need a high-quality education system to achieve economic prosperity for the next generation, to promote social mobility, and to foster social cohesion.

Please join us for an in-person breakfast event on Tuesday August 2, with NSW Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning, Sarah Mitchell hosted by CIS education program director, Glenn Fahey.

Ensuring all students have access to high-quality teachers is essential to raising school outcomes. However, sustaining a high quantity and quality in our teacher workforce remains among our most significant education policy challenges.

NSW is leading the nation and creating innovative approaches when it comes to securing the supply of great teachers. It is not just about pay and conditions, but also about attracting, preparing, and supporting more diverse teachers to the chalkface.

So, how can we address teacher shortages? Can we realistically expect to increase both the number and the quality of our teachers? How can trainee teachers be better prepared?

The Hon. Sarah Mitchell is NSW Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning. She has been a Nationals member of the New South Wales Legislative Council since March 2011.

Glenn Fahey is program director in Education Policy at CIS with a particular focus on education finance and accountability. He is author of recent report, Failing to teach the teacher: An analysis of mathematics Initial Teacher Education (CIS, 2021).
