Breakfast with Henry Olonga
Event Information
Description
Come & hear about the remarkable life of Henry Olonga.
Henry is a former Zimbabwean test cricketer. Henry made his international debut in 1995, becoming the youngest and the first black player to represent Zimbabwe. In that game, as a right arm fast bowler, he helped Zimbabwe to their first ever victory in a test match.
At the Cricket World Cup in 2003, Henry (along with team mate Andy Flower) achieved international recognition by wearing a black arm band in a match to "mourn the death of democracy" in Zimbabwe. The protest led to a warrant being issued in Zimbabwe for his arrest on charges of treason (which carries the death penalty). As a result Henry was forced into exile in the UK.
In 2004, he married Tara Read in Adelaide where he now resides permanently.
Henry is an excellent singer and was recently a contestant on the The Voice Australia
