The Melbourne Outreach Committee of Human Rights Watch cordially invites you to a panel event and breakfast on Business and Human Rights.
Special guests on the panel are Michael Daddo, Managing Partner of The Shannon Company, Phoebe Wynn-Pope, Head of Business and Human Rights at Corrs Chambers Westgarth, and Leigh Barnes, Chief Purpose Officer at Intrepid Group.
The event will be moderated by Kate Rosenberg, Melbourne Development and Outreach Manager at Human Rights Watch.
The panel event will focus on the intersection between human rights and business. What responsibility do businesses have in upholding human rights and which businesses are doing it well?
Panel will be followed by an opportunity to network. Light breakfast will be provided.
Tickets are $5.00. All proceeds will be donated to Human Rights Watch.
Michael Daddo
Managing Partner, The Shannon Company
Michael has more than 25 years’ experience in Australia and Internationally working with companies such as American Express, Kimberly Clark, Nestle, BMW, NAB, ANZ, Medibank Private, Tassal, Industry Super Funds, AustralianSuper and Cbus.
He is a highly respected behaviour change strategist who has worked across government, not-for-profit and corporate sectors to help find new approaches that inspire individuals and communities to adopt new behaviours.
Phoebe Wynn-Pope
Head of Business and Human Rights, Corrs Chambers Westgarth
Phoebe is an accomplished senior executive with over 25 years’ experience in the humanitarian sector. She has worked extensively with government, business, academia, the media and the public to promote human rights and develop excellence in humanitarian practise.
Phoebe has represented organisations at the United Nations, and was a founding director of the Humanitarian Advisory Group, a social enterprise committed to delivering excellence in the humanitarian sector. She was also director of International Humanitarian Law and a member of the leadership team of Australian Red Cross.
Leigh Barnes
Chief Purpose Officer, Intrepid Group
Leigh is responsible for working closely with The Intrepid Foundation and external partners as Intrepid Group seeks to create more shared value projects and operate a business with a purpose beyond profit. In 2018, the company committed 0.75% of global revenue towards purpose activities, creating a team of dedicated employees to lead The Intrepid Foundation, and attaining B-Corp status.
Most recently, Leigh led the company’s North American business as the regional director of North America for Intrepid Group out of the company’s Toronto headquarters.
HUMAN RIGHTS DAY is a global awareness-raising day in support of the universal rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or other status; to which we are all equally entitled, without discrimination; and, which bind us together as a global community.
Human Rights Day is celebrated across the world on 10 December, as it has been since 1950, in commemoration of the United Nations General Assembly’s 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH is a global, independent, not-for-profit organisation that works to uphold human dignity and advance the cause of human rights for all. Established in 1978, Human Rights Watch engages with the United Nations, regional groups such as the African Union and the European Union, national governments, financial institutions, and corporations to press for changes in policy and practice affecting human rights.
