You have produced a product. You and everyone you know thinks it is brilliant.


You may use it and see lots of benefits and uses within your life or someone you knows life. This is it, you see a great business future in front of you. So you spend money on a logo and packaging and get it ready to sell. You are so optimistic that everyone will see what you see and that you will be fighting buyers off. But what next? Do those buyers beat down your door to get at this great product? Even if they did, could you answer all the questions they may ask you? Have you asked yourself all the questions you need to be asking?



Everyday buyers, in all routes to market, are approached by hundreds of people looking to get their products listed. How do you stand out from the crowd? What would make them sit up and listen? Even if you do get their attention, you usually have only one chance to make an impact. Which may or may not get you through to the next meeting. Believe me there are many many hoops to jump through before you see your product on a shelf. That is when the hard work really starts. Keeping it there!



There are no guarantees, all you can do is give yourself the best chance of success you can. I have worked in Fast Moving consumer goods for 18 years and have done this ……a lot! In this Lunch and Learn I will talk about 5 of the many things I believe you need to be asking yourself and answering before making the first contact!

Marie Dearlove is the Business Owner/Founder of South West Brands. SWB is a Sales and Brand Development Consultancy specialising in consumer products, produced in the South West. SWB also offers tailored sales training/mentoring (if you don’t know how to do it learn from someone who has done it) and Interim Sales Management (if you have a short or medium term sales opportunity but no one to look at it… give Marie a call).


Marie moved to the South West from the UK 2 years ago and fell in the love with the place and the people. So she and her family have made a home here. In the UK Marie spent over 16 years working for some large multinational companies and brands. Managing their relationships, teams and accounts with major retailers (e.g. She is getting on a bit so there is too many to name here). Marie also worked in partnership with Grocery Retailers on Private Label/Retailer Brands within the grocery industry. From concept right through to delivery in store. She has done a lot and seen a lot but tries to keep things simple! She believes there is great potential in the South West and wants to use her experience to help…. And keep a roof over her head along the way!
