BRAIN WAVES

Art, Play, Game Design and the Mind

BRAINWAVES explores the intersection of game design, artistic practice and health science with a particular focus on personal wellbeing. The symposium will draw on a wealth of interdisciplinary, creative collaborations to discuss game design, new media art and its potential to have significant impact on the lives of those living with neurological impairment and disability.

In a TEDX style format, leading experts will deliver 20 minute presentations on their research specialization, discussing industry collaboration and reflecting on how their designs create impact.

At the end of the six sessions, BRAINWAVES experts will engage in a lively Q & A moderated by Vicki Sowry (TBC) from Australian Network for Art and Technology.

Presented by the Creative Interventions Art and Rehabilitative Technology Lab in the RMIT Centre for Game Design Research at the School of Media and Communication

RMIT Centre for Game Design Research

The Centre for Game Design Research is an interdisciplinary centre for research and the creation of games and playful design interventions based in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT University in Australia. The Centre brings together scholars, artists, designers, engineers and students across Schools and Research Centres at RMIT as well as participants from other Universities and Industry.

We design, analyse and critique electronic games and playful activities, to grow our knowledge and appreciation of electronic games and play in modern culture. We also investigate how problems can be solved through the design of new gameful experiences and test these with participants.

It is the directive of the Centre to:

  • Initiate and support collaborative research/development of projects in digital game studies and design;
  • Build bridges and establish partnerships with games related industries, independent game developers and international researchers and artists;
  • Actively explore and develop viable models of interdisciplinary research collaboration.
