Event description

Description

RMIT University proudly presents the second BRAINWAVES symposium: Art, Play, Design and Big Data. According to IBM, we create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data on a daily basis from social media sites, digital pictures, video, climate sensors and GPS mobile signals. Why is it important that artists and designers be engaged with data; how do we access it and what do we do with it?

Leading artists, designers and researchers will discuss how big data is being used to create new aesthetic forms, reach new audiences and create new contexts for the distribution of cultural artifacts through their creative practice.

Topics include:

  • Virtual Reality

  • Virtual heritage

  • Generative media art environments

  • Serious games

  • Archiving and Preservation

  • Visualisation

Presented by CiART (Creative interventions, Arts and Rehabilitative Technology Lab), Centre of Games Design Research, and the Digital Ethnography Research Centre in the School of Media and Communication, RMIT University.
