Event description

Description

BSP & Addiction Training:

Completion of an in-person Phase One BSP training is the pre-requisite to register for this training

The training is not a full addiction training for those who have never worked with addiction.

The training assumes some familiarity with addiction counselling and trauma.

This training will introduce participants to the recently developed and enormously successful “Brainspotting Crocodile set up” to help their addicted clients stop urges & cravings quickly.

This is done through brain changes, so deeper issues driving the addiction, can be addressed and resolved. This gives the addict even more advantage in recovery.

The training will also introduce the viewing of addiction through several different lenses:

  • Addiction as attempt for Secure Attachment

  • Addiction and its correlation to ACEs

  • Addiction as Affect Regulation

  • Addiction as attempt at Nervous System Regulation

  • Addiction metaphor of The Crocodile - The story of its origin

  • Addiction and the use of Narrative Therpay and benefits of Externalising the Problem

  • Neuroscience driving addiction and relapse

There will be time for discussion, Q & A, along with a video demonstration of the "Crocodile Set Up" with participants having time to practice of set up in dyads, with full debrief afterwards.

Dr Abeles will also share personal and professional stories of her own and her clients treatment and recovery. Case Examples will be shared.

After this training, participants will be able to:

1. Name and explain why areas in the brain of the addict are disconnected

2. Understand the value of metaphor, storytelling, and the narrative therapy technique of 'externalizing the problem', in addiction recovery

3. Use a well-developed metaphor – ‘The Crocodile’, to externalize their client's addiction and allow a good alliance/connection with therapist to begin

4. Understand and begin to connect to and enlist the help of the "addict ego states" involved in the recovery goal

5. Use Brainspotting in "The Crocodile Set Up" + other BSP skills to help addict prevent relapse and move forward into resolution of traumas and other issues which drive the addiction.

THERAPIST FEEDBACK ABOUT THE TRAINING

Kaye Griffin Fantastic ... I have attended this training in Sydney, and then in Atlanta with 80 other BPS therapists and know the power and depth of information that is provided.

The energy of the group in the trainings have been so inspiring and rich ... it comes from the honesty and openness and great skill of the presentation by Roby ... I love it so much ... I will also be at the Melbourne training ... this time in my home town.

I hope that others will travel to Melbourne and be part of the training ... it is sooo good. See you there I hope.

Deborah Davison Antinori - NEW YORK - Thank you for the excellent addictions training in Atlanta. I used the Crcodile ste up with a client with great results today!

Stephen Roberts - CANADA, I have used the Croc setup for all addictions. It has worked extremely well in my practice.

Jacqui Laderman Kievit - Hello Roby Abeles
I used your addiction technique this weekend on a 35 YO male. Ex-marine. He was in rehab for 23 days and had BSP therapy 2 times while there. He worked on the sadness and anger of his wife leaving him and not letting him see his daughter.

In our session we set up the URGE TO USE spot on the wall, I taped a piece of paper on his spot, and then he found the activation spot for the consequences and I gheld the pointer in that brainspot for the session.

He moved his eyes back and forth at his will, stayed mostly on the activated spot. After 40 minutes he was feeling very relaxed, tension in head was gone. I then began "proximity" and we did that until he held the pointer and eventually held it against his face. He was down to a 0-1.

We then found the spot what life would be like without the addiction.
There were no obstacles so he processed that.

I spoke with him 4 days later and he has no urge, is doing quite well and would like to meet again this week end and process the trauma of his father abandoning him and his mother at age 6.

I really enjoyed using this technique! I want to thank you so much!

I then did double spotting the next day with a 19 YO young lady with depression! Once again success!

What would we do without BSP?

Hope to meet you one day.....
Warmly,
Jacqui
