Event description

Description

Overview

Product Management professionals are responsible for the end to end Product Experience.

Part of that Product Experience includes the customer’s interaction with the product or service. In order to excel at our jobs, Product Management professionals must have the ability to engage and work closely with UX practitioners to design seamless and usable customer interactions.

This one day training session with user experience experts, UX Mastery provides participants with the tools, techniques and the confidence to be able to communicate with UX practitioners as well as design customer interactions that delight the customer.

Who Should Attend

The course is designed for:

  • Product Managers
  • Product Owners
  • Product Designers
  • Business Analysts
  • Start Up Founders

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn how to:

  • Learn what User Experience (UX) is, and its importance in the design of products and services.
  • Understand what a UX process looks like, and the principles behind user-centered design.
  • Gain exposure to a range of UX techniques, such as conducting interviews, performing affinity mapping, creating storyboards, UI flows, wireframes and prototypes, and conducting usability tests.
  • Be able to practice applying these techniques to the design of a product or service.
  • Confidently communicate using visual language—useful for removing ambiguity in meetings, expressing ideas for product concepts, features and use cases
  • Quickly generate prototypes without relying on development teams or graphic designers
  • Validate product decisions through developing qualitative data like interviews and usability testing of prototypes, not just quantitative data generated by surveys or web analytics.

Workshop Agenda

The Essentials of User Experience Design is a hands-on training session. Each section of the training consists of a short briefing and theory, followed by the activity with participants performing activities— individually, in pairs, and as a group. Throughout the day, participants will be creating a mobile app for ordering food from a restaurant. This case study works well, as everyone has had experience in ordering food from a restaurant, so there is no shortage of subject matter experts to interview!

  • What is UX design? What is considered “best practice”
  • What does a UX process look like?
  • What are the principles behind UX design?
  • What are some UX techniques that I can use today?

Activities:

  • User interviews
  • Affinity mapping
  • Basic sketching tips
  • Storyboards
  • UI Flows
  • Wireframes
  • Paper prototyping
  • Digital prototyping
  • Presenting and critiquing
  • Usability testing
  • Summary

Prices

The price of this 1 day workshop is $995 (incl. GST) per participant and includes:

  • Course Material
  • Morning Tea
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon Tea

Trainer

Luke Chambers

General tinkerer, web tailor, user-centred design soldier and tall-ship sailor, Luke Chambers is one half of the founding partnership behind UX Mastery. He learned his collaborative, visual thinking and storytelling skills while studying filmmaking at the Victorian College of the Arts.

He has worked in the web industry since his first startup in 1999, and came across user-centred design while himself participating in a user testing session for Sensis. He has since championed user experience design for both small guerilla projects and at large companies like Penguin Books Australia, and consults through his agency Experia Digital. He enjoys sailing tall ships, writing retro detective fiction and creating lists (lots of lists).

Throughout his day he listens, sketches, tells stories and explains to people the “why” of the design that happens behind the visuals.
