In this seminar Prof. Daniel Weber will review a number of evidence- based botanical medicines that effectively support patients during chemotherapy. A complementary approach that is truly integrative. Historically, most oncologists demand patients take no additional medicines while on chemo, but research suggest this is incorrect, particularly when using botanical medicines.

The standard medical practices in cancer treatment are surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Although effective in many cases, these interventions are of major concerns for cancer patients due to serious side- effects. These patients often seek-out complementary practitioners for treatment to manage chemotherapy, while not interfering with its treatment.

We find that patients report fewer side effects from the chemo, better outcomes, improved QoL and, quite frequently longer time in remission. These are facts that are reported repeatedly in peer-reviewed journals. While historically most oncologists have demanded patients take no additional medicines while on chemotherapy, research suggests this is incorrect, particularly when using botanical medicines.

The second part of the seminar will look at the use of botanicals in over- coming multi-drug resistance (MDR). MDR is a key factor in the failure of chemotherapy and research suggests using these MDR overcoming botanicals are effective in patient support. We find now that the patient actually should start this at the initiation of chemotherapy and not later.
