GUEST SPEAKERS PANEL: GET SOCIAL AND MAINTAIN GOOD HEALTH

WHEN: TUESDAY 9 OCTOBER 2018

WHERE: HAWTHORN ARTS CENTRE

SESSION TIME: 11AM - 12.30PM

This panel of guest speakers will focus on cutting edge, thought provoking ideas and evidence on health and well-being issues relating to older adults. Be inspired and motivated by leading professionals as they highlight the importance of being physically active, eating well and staying socially connected to community. Featuring keynote speakers:

Dr Sally Cockburn, known in the media also as Dr Feelgood, is Australia's leading health communicator in life, health and feeling good. She champions sensitive issues, demystifies medical matters, debunks jargon and helps people understand ways to navigate changes in life, health and relationships as we age.

Dr Freak-Poli is a life-course epidemiologist dedicated to the field of active ageing, where her research focuses on the relationship between physical health and psychological health. Rosanne will highlight how older Australians, who are active and healthy, are an asset to both the economy and to the social fabric of Australia. Dr Freak-Poli believes that social interaction is like medicine and in this presentation, she aims to empower older adults to engage and ‘get social’ in their communities.

There is increasing awareness that a correct and balanced diet may prevent the insurgence of diet-related pathologies and improve well-being and life expectancy. Dietician and nutritionist, Victoria de Lacy, will discuss the link between eating well and good health, and maintains that by following some simple day to day habits, you just may be able to ‘have your cake and eat it too’.
