Event description

Description

Born Ready is a short course, 4 hours long. It is recommended for those 20 -36 weeks pregnant – the earlier the better.

Born Ready was put together by some of the women’s health team at The Physiotherapy Clinic. We look after women’s bodies. This is what we do. Let us teach you how to look after yours through pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Birth is a highly emotional and controversial topic. Born Ready has been designed for anyone giving birth. Whether it be a home birth or a hospital birth. A vaginal birth or a caesarean birth.

We believe that when it comes to birth you need to be informed so that you can be a part of the decision-making process.

We believe that every woman and couple will make different decisions and that these decisions will be right for them and them alone. This makes sense to us since no two women are the same.

We also believe that the more you know about your own body- especially your pelvic floor- the more confident you will be about the decisions you make.

What you will learn at the course:

  • Learn how to look after your pelvic floor and abdominal wall.
  • Learn and practise birth skills (distraction techniques).
  • Learn how to help push a baby out.
  • Learn about what to do with your body after your baby, including return to exercise.

Born ready is split up into three sections as outlined below.

Before Birth: Outlines your pregnant body now. What is going on, what it should feel like and how to keep it in its best working order. It details how to avoid abdominal separation and also how to best look after your pelvic floor. Be prepared to do some exercise as a part of this section.

Birth: A recap of anatomy and the stages of labour as well as details about the hormones behind labour and delivery will be outlined. We will discuss assistance or intervention and some facts that are good to know. We will practice ‘Birth Skills’ which can be very helpful in managing labour pain. We will teach you how to effectively push out a baby and also what to do when you baby is crowning (stretching your pelvic floor).

After Birth: An area that women don’t know they need to know about until they get there. We will teach you what to do with your body after you have had your baby, in particular about abdominal separation and pelvic floor. We will talk you through your return to exercise. Of course this is all pivotal in getting your body back to the best it can possibly be.

Born Ready is recommended to be a part of your antenatal education. It is not a stand alone course and we recommend attending at the very least your hospital based course as well.
