Write that book! Year of the Novel
TIME / DATES: 10.30am-4.30pm Saturdays 25 February, 22 April, 24 June, 26 August and 21 October
Whether it's a true or made-up story, memoir or creative non-fiction, if you have a book length story you're keen to tell, this course will help you to WRITE THAT BOOK! This is a great opportunity for emerging writers to complete a first draft over five full-day workshops with Mary-Rose MacColl throughout 2017. The course will be a mix of workshops with Mary-Rose, group discussion, workshopping with one another, and peer feedback. It also includes one-on-one feedback on 10 pages of a work in progress.

About Mary-Rose MacColl
Mary-Rose MacColl's novels include the internationally bestselling In Falling Snow and Swimming Home, which was The Courier-Mail People's Choice Queensland Book of the Year for 2016. Mary-Rose has written six novels, a non-fiction book, a memoir, short stories, feature journalism, essays and a magazine column. She has taught creative writing, feature journalism and publishing.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
This course is for participants aged 18 years and above. If you are accessing the QWC member tickets you may be asked to show proof of membership.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Queensland Writers Centre is located on Level 2 of the State Library of Queensland.
There are several parking and transportation options:
- Parking underneath State Library or Queensland Museum costs $16 per entry.
- There is limited street parking available on Merivale Street, Montague Road and Hope Street at an hourly rate.
- A drop-off point is located on the ring road outside SLQ, next to the bus stops.
- The Cultural Precinct BusWay and South Brisbane Train Station are a short walk from State Library.
What can I bring into the event?
You can bring either pen and paper or a laptop along with you to write with. If you do bring a laptop, please remember to bring a power adaptor if necessary.
The venue runs quite a cool air-conditioning system so we advise bringing a jacket, jumper or cardigan with you.

What's the refund policy?
If Queensland Writers Centre cancels an event, we will try to reschedule it for a later date. If we cannot reschedule the event, or if you are unable to attend on the amended date, your payment will be refunded in full.
