IWD Community Forum - A challenged world is an alert world

Join us for an afternoon of interesting conversation with five inspiring women. This free community event will make you laugh and cry as our special guests share their stories about triumphs and tragedies, and explore this year’s IWD theme of #ChoosetoChallenge.

Reanna Sanders - Founder of Auntys Free Feeds and the 2021 NT Local Hero nominee
Reanna Sanders serves up to 100 free meals to people in need, every Sunday in the Palmerston pool carpark. Auntys Free Feeds is supported by Reanna’s GoFundMe page and a small group of volunteers who assist by cooking and bringing along additional meals. Her community involvement and desire to help the less fortunate provides a valuable service for those who need it most.
Dr Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr Baumann AM - 2021 Senior Australian of the Year
Dr Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr Baumann AM is an Aboriginal elder from Nauiyu and a renowned artist, activist, writer, and public speaker. In 2013, she established the Miriam Rose Foundation, to bridge the divide between Aboriginal culture and mainstream society – driving reconciliation at a grassroots level. Through her professional and creative life, Miriam-Rose has remained dedicated to maintaining the cultural independence of her people and being a spokesperson for the Aboriginal worldview.
Dr Bo Remenyi - Paediatric Cardiologist and 2018 NT Australian of the Year
As a junior doctor working in remote communities, Dr Bo Remenyi was tasked with filling out death certificates for children dying of preventable heart disease. Finding this unfair and unacceptable, Bo spent a further six years studying to become one of Australia’s first female paediatric cardiologists. Now an internationally recognised expert, Bo is tackling the Northern Territory’s rate of Rheumatic Heart Disease, which among the Indigenous population is currently the highest in the world.
Wendy Burns - Founder and Director, Wendy Burns Consulting
Wendy is a highly experienced, internationally certified expert in professional coaching, transformational leadership, author, and speaker. Wendy has over 20 years in leadership in various Australian Government Regulatory Environments leading teams through organisational change. Values based leadership for the individual, team, and business are among the many areas of expertise Wendy brings to the table.
Judith O’Hearn OAM - Paralympian
Judith was born in Darwin and diagnosed with a cyst on her spine at the age of 26. After two operations she required a wheelchair for mobility, and during rehabilitation enjoyed using the pool. She won gold at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games in breaststroke, was awarded an Order of Australia medal for her service to sport and is now is a Career Practitioner working with senior secondary students.
