Who can attend this event?

Booka Beats is a youth event targeting (12 - 25 year olds) but anyone from the community is free to attend.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

We recommend catching public transport, Mirrabooka bus station is only a 5 minute walk from Mirrabooka Open Space. Parking will be available on site.

What about bad weather?

If there is extreme weather (rain, storms or heat), this event will be cancelled.

What food and drink is available on the day?

Food Trucks will be attending the event and will have food available for purchase, empty water bottles can be brought to the event as there will be a water refill station on site.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You will need to bring a copy of your ticket to the event, both printed and electronic will be accepted.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Tickets are non-transferrable, if you are unable to make it please cancel your ticket/s so that someone else can purchase them.

Downsyde: Formed in 1996 for a school talent competition, Downsyde kicked open the doors for West Australian hip hop artists as well as being early pioneers on the national scene. Since then they’ve released four acclaimed albums, won a stack of awards, had charting albums and singles and toured Australia and the world numerous times, building up a legion of fans across the globe.

In the year’s since their last release “All City”, the group’s members have been busy on numerous projects including Dazastah touring with Drapht and producing for A.B. Original and Optamus running hip hop workshops everywhere from regional communities to prisons. New album ClassicILL in stores now!

Hyclass: Crowned Perth’s ‘Best Hip Hop Act 2018’ by WAM, Hyclass, Maori Polynesian descendant, islander born and Australian raised otherwise known as Susan Tuialli is Perth’s most sought-after female hip hop artist with a tremendous amount of soul intertwined with copious amounts of flavour. Hyclass has made special appearances at Listen Out 2018, Groovin The Moo Festival 2018, Fairbridge Festival 2018, WAVY Festival 2018, Ice Cream Factory 2018, RTR Winter Music Festival 2018 & WAMFest 2018.

Rivaboi: Clayton Murray-Mitchell aka Rivaboi has been rocking dance floors since 2012 when he started out as a Dj for Melbourne based Indigenous hip hop label Payback records. Rivaboi has travelled Australia withPayback records artist Yung Warriors & Philly on their album tours, and has played at significant community events such as the Long Walk Concert, Bubup Festival and the Perth NAIDOC Ball.

T$oko: Hailing from Harare Zimbabwe, T$oko was destined to confute stigmas associated to impervious cultural restraints and draw on profound exposure from his musically diversified household. Coupled with tutoring of practical music awareness in formative school years; T$oko became acquainted with an aptitude to write - often harnessing the energy and dynamics of peers whom shared this propensity.
Evoking honourable recognition among those familiar with T$oko’s music; he is garnered by admirable acclaim as a credible solo artist within the notoriously competitive Perth music scene. Exhibiting spirited determination to connect with his audience on a personal level, T$oko proves his own mastery - eluding conformity of mainstream commercialism and establishing a refreshing uniqueness.

Event MC- Trooth: Trooth believes that hip hop is not only one of “the revolutionary tools of mankind” but it also can be used as a freedom of expression with no rules or boundaries. In a world of society‟s restrictions – hip hop is his liberation. Since 2006 the rapper has launched 2 mixtapes, “Gettin U Junkdafied,” and, “United We Stand,” which features other acclaimed artist's in the Perth Hip Hop scene. He has also launched an EP, “TOO HIGH,” and in 2012 he launched his first full length album,In 2017 Trooth was invited to perform at an international conference of recovery in Chicago performing at the Hilton Hotel in front of 7000 attendees. Trooth runs his own company, Reach 1 Teach 1 Project, and is very active in the local community running Hip Hop events.

Wadumbah Dance Group: Wadumbah will be opening the festival with a Welcome to Country and a Traditional Bibbulmunn Aboriginal Dance. The Wadumbah Dance Group have been showcasing Bibullmun culture from the South West for many years in the state of Western Australia and all over the world. They are proud to represent Australia overseas in different countries and to entertain and share this ancient culture with Australians on home ground. They do this through music, dance and storytelling!
