Description

The People’s Republic of China under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and its ‘Chairman of Everything’, Xi Jinping, has declared that it shares in the destiny of the countries of the Asia and Pacific region, as well as of nations that are part of an intertwined national self-interest. The China Story Yearbook 2014 takes the theme of Shared Destiny 共同命运 and considers it in the context of China’s current and future potential.

The China Story Yearbook 2014: Shared Destiny will be launched by Professor the Hon Gareth Evans AC QC, Chancellor, ANU, and followed by ‘Shared Destiny: China under Xi Jinping’ Panel Discussion with Professor Geremie R Barmé, Professor Gloria Davies and Dr Jane Golley.

Professor Geremie R Barmé is an historian, cultural critic, filmmaker, translator and web-journal editor who works on Chinese cultural and intellectual history from the early modern period (1600s) to the present. He is the Founding Director of the Australian Centre on China in the World (CIW), ANU.

Professor Gloria Davies is a literary scholar, historian and translator whose research covers a range of areas: Chinese intellectual and literary history from the 1890s to the present; contemporary Chinese thought; and studies of cultural flows in the digital age. She is Professor of Chinese Studies at Monash University and a member of the Monash Asia Institute and the CIW advisory board.

Dr Jane Golley is an economist focused on a range of Chinese transition and development issues. She is an Associate Director of the CIW, ANU, and head of the China Numbers research stream.
