Book Club: because reading a great book and then not being able to discuss it is like winning tattslotto and not telling anyone about it!

Book Club: Year 3 & 4 - October 20th - Charlie and the Karaoke Cockroaches

CHARLIE AND KARAOKE COCKROACHES by Alan Brough

Our October Book Club pick is local comedian and author Alan Brough's new book...

It begins with an interrupted story. Then, a mysterious box that speaks and sings. Add unusually unusual teachers, incredible lurking from the Lurker, an insect orchestra and a bungling burglar and it's up to Charlie and Hils to save three innocent bugs from the forces of evil.

Another hilarious adventure starring Charlie and Hils from comedian, actor, singer and dancer (it's true!), Alan Brough.

From an early age, Alan Brough wanted to be a writer. Then he decided that he really wanted to be an actor. But there wasn't much work for a 6 foot 4 inch guy with a slightly lopsided face and thick curly hair so Alan tried broadcasting, dancing (true!), singing, and being a professional music nerd. Recently, he got around to being a writer. One day he hopes to have a bio that includes phrases like 'so successful he recently bought a solid gold toilet'.

We're going to have a ball!

The Little Bookroom Logo

The Little Bookroom - bringing children's books to Melbourne since 1960.

The Little Bookroom opened its doors to the public on Friday the 13th October, 1960, the first bookstore in Australia to stock only children's books. It has been a Melbourne institution ever since!

The shop is named for a collection of stories by Eleanor Farjeon who wrote:

"I am proud and happy to know you've chosen the title of my book for the title of your Bookshop in the City my Father first set foot in the 1850s when he emigrated to Australia as a boy of 16. The stories he told me of his arrival in Melbourne have always made it seem to be one of 'my' cities. Thank you for giving me a home in it"

Edward Ardizzone illustrated 'The Little Bookroom' and provided us with an original ink illustration for our logo, a treasure indeed.
