Event Information
About this Event
Central Coast Bonsai Club invites you to join a fun filled day with Sam Thompson, assistant curator of the National Bonsai & Penjing Collection . Sam is recognised as a promising young bonsai artist with a wealth of knowledge and excellent communication and tutoring skills.
Subject to availability, you can participate in either the morning demonstration or afternoon workshop or both sessions. A further option is to be an "observer" of the afternoon workshop.
See Cost Structure below for details of each participation category
Sam Thompson has been the assistant curator at the National Bonsai & Penjing Collection (NBPCA) for the past 3 years. Sam started bonsai at young age and later studied under Master Kunio Kobayashi. Sam has demonstrated internationally and undertakes regular training overseas to further his knowledge. Clearly, he has a wealth of experience to share
Sam’s constant exposure and responsibilities in maintaining and developing a large volume of high quality international standard bonsai allows him to work with confidence and expertise. His passion and focus lie in teaching bonsai enthusiasts fine tuning and refinement techniques.
Sam is comfortable, knowledgeable, and capable of working with a wide range of species (especially taking into account the variety at the NBPCA). From a personal perspective, Sam particularly enjoys working on Japanese Black and Red Pines, Cedars, Hawthorn and Elms. He also enjoys making Kusamono and accent plants as part of his normal bonsai practice.
Sam's demonstration tree will be raffled. One free raffle ticket is included with your entry fee. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased on the day.
Due to Coronavirus, participant numbers are restricted and we request all attendees to practice safe distancing and respect the other attendees.
