Bonsai on the Coast with Jarryd Bailey - Demonstration & Workshop Event
Event Information
About this Event
Central Coast Bonsai Club invites you to join a fun filled day with Jarryd Bailey, bonsai artist and proprietor of Montane Bonsai Garden from the northern slopes of Mount Wellington, Tasmania. Jarryd is without doubt one of Australia's most promising young bonsai artists .
Subject to availability, you can participate in either the morning demonstration or afternoon workshop or both sessions. A further option is to be an "observer" of the afternoon workshop.
See Cost Structure below for details of each participation category
Jarryd approaches bonsai by observation, as the naturalist, creating compositions reminiscent of Tasmania’s wilderness landscapes. Spending time roaming Tasmania’s wild mountains and ancient forests provides the inspiration for exploration and reflection of place and its beauty.
Jarryd's Montane Bonsai Garden, has a particular focus on the paleo-endemic Gondwanan flora, notably Tasmania’s relic conifers and Australia’s only true cold climate deciduous plant, the Fagus or Tanglefoot.
The Nursery maintains a Gallery style body of work, consisting of some of the finest Native Bonsai in Australia.
Jarryd specialises in refining advanced nursery and yamadori material and utilising creative approaches to bringing the best from young, unusual and otherwise difficult stock.
Another area of interest is the more playful and highly seasonal art of Kusamono, using perennial grasses and herbs.
Jarryd originally learned bonsai using traditional species, techniques and philosophy, providing the backbone for the exploration now being undertaken into the horticulture and aesthetic of Tasmanian flora as bonsai. Jarryd currently teaches students at his nursery, conducts bimonthly Native Bonsai study groups for members of BSST and demonstrates for clubs around Tasmania.
Jarryd has studied under world renowned International artist Michael Hagedorn. Living and working at Michael's garden in Portland Oregon, provided exposure to world class material and techniques which helped Jarryd continue his evolution of practice.
The opportunity to participate in either Demonstration or Workshop with Jarryd is a fantastic opportunity to further enhance your bonsai knowledge and experience.
Jarryd's demonstration tree will be raffled with raffle tickets available for purchase on the day.
Due to Coronavirus, participant numbers are restricted and we request all attendees to practice safe distancing and respect the other attendees.
