Casting has been used for centuries as a method of replicating body parts for educational and artistic purposes. Looking at both traditional and contemporary techniques, we will be exploring different methods of body casting including using alginate, plaster bandages and directly cast moulds.

8 May:
Learn sculpture basics, including how to mix plaster and press moulds.
15 May:
Capture expressive hand gestures with plaster bandages.
22 May:
Finish and mount cast hands.
29 May:
Use alginate to create a realistic replica of a body part then create mould and cast forms.
5 June:
Create moulds in groups and experiment with direct body casting.
19 June:
Continue group mould making.
26 June:
Cast in prepared moulds.
3 July:
Open moulds and finish pieces.
