Sat. 6 May 2017, 10:30 am – 3:30 pm AEST
Artist, writer, illustrator and lecturer Nettie Lodge will be tutoring this not to be missed one day introdction to the art of narrative illustration.
Illustration and more specifically narrative illustration, is the art of storytelling through images. Like theatre, it allows the reader a glimpse into another dimension beyond the words.
This master class is designed to show perceptual, imaginative and technical skills to illustrate a story, a personal prose, a poem, a book cover, a children’s book, an essay, a graphic novel or a personal narrative project.
During the workshop, Nettie will guide the participants through the steps, techniques and imaginative processes necessary to create and illustrate an individual narrative text, tailored to the specific style and needs of each participant.
The prose will be created in the class with each participant contributing words and lines to create one overall piece of text. This will be created and developed together with creative drawing exercises, using a variety of techniques and mediums including paints, inks, collage and printing. Participants will experiment with different mediums and engage in a variety of creative exercises to generate ideas to illustrate the created text.
Each participant will develop a creative, illustrative response to the proposed creative prose.
Nettie will provide individual feedback and one on one guidance to each participant to enable a solid understanding of the illustration process and develop confidence in generating visual ideas into illustration.
Materials: Sketch book, pencils, number 1 and number 4 watercolour paintbrush.
