Event description


BLUEsat's major intro day for semester one.

So you heard about us at o-week and want to get involved? Or maybe you just want to gain hands on experience in space engineering, space mission development, or even the logistics involved in running a space engineering society.

Our orientation day will include an intro to the society, a selection of workshops from our teams, ARC subsidised Pizza, and more!

Please be there at 11:00am sharp.

Schedule for the Day:

11:00am - Midday - Intro to the Society & Welcome (J17 504)

Midday - 1pm - Lunch

1pm - 4pm Intro Workshops (See below)

4pm - 8pm - Board Games and Pizza


A large part of the day will consist of workshops to introduce you to our teams and some of the things we work with. These will run from 1pm to 4pm, participants are expected to attend the society welcome first.

Making an Arduino Joystick for the Rover - Design Studio (J17, 504)

Work with members of our rover software team to build a custom joystick for our rover. Participants will gain an understanding of some of the software we use on our Rover + Arduino and breadboarding.

Best for: Rover Softwarre

Intro to Electronics - Willis Annex

A broad introduction to electronics at BLUEsat including breadboarding, PCB design, and soldering. Participants will make a range finder.

Best for: Satellite ADSC & Power Teams, Rover Electrical

Intro to Balloon Team (Python 101) - Quad 1046

Participants will learn the basics of python which is used by our Balloon and Groundstation teams. Places are strictly limited to those interested in balloon or groundstation.

Best for: Beginners Balloon & Groundstation Team

Software Defined Radio Workshop - Quad 1045

Participants will learn the basics of Software Defined Radio.

Best for: Groundstation Team

Intro to Space Missions - Quad 1047

Participants will learn the basics of space missions.

Best for: Satellite Science (Greensat) & Media, Events & Finance

Mechanical CAD, 3D Prinitng & CNC Demo - Location TBC

Participants will get a walkthrough of some of the tools and processes used by our rover mechnaical team. This includes CAD, 3D Printing, and the CNC.

Best for: Rover Mechanical Team

Learning to Drive the Rover - Outside Willis Annex

Participants will learn to drive our Rover.

Best for: Anyone!

Note: We will also be running an onboarding session for people solely interested in media, events & operations the following week at 11am. However, we encourage you to come to these other workshops and get an idea of what the society does if possible.
