George Gittoes Sydney Peace Prize recipient 2015, Australian Artist, Filmmaker renowned internationally for his work in war zones in Africa, the Middle East, from Kibeho in Rwanda, Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan working with peace keepers and for the Australian War Memorial as a photographer. His Art informs and reports on war and the human condition.

In a recent autobiography he is referred to as a ‘Blood Mystic’ bringing calm to people in peril.

George Gittoes talks about his life and work in some of the most devastating places on earth, he is accompanied by legendary singer and performer Hellen Rose, his partner and the only person to travel with him into war. Rose was the first woman to sing in 80 years to mixed audience at an International Women’s Day this year in Jalalabad. This high security event was too dangerous for the First Lady Rula Ghani to attend but Hellen went even though IS had directly threatened to kill the ‘foreign singer’. Gittoes presents his riveting stories growing up in the Sydney suburb of Kogarah under the rough wing of his Irish born Grandfather who trained boxers and race horses, Gittoes grew up tough. This strength has enabled him to survive in the worlds war zones from Kibeho in Rwanda, Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Iraqand Afghanistan. But this strength also enabled him to choose the path of creativity and from his early days of raising money with his puppet shows in his backyard for the Red Cross to the letter from Mother Theresa counselling a 20 year old Gittoes to use his gifts in the service of others as he and his friends Martin Sharp, Bruce Gould, at the Yellow House Sydney sought for a way through the dilemmas of the World
