BLOGGING FOR WRITERS

With Tiana Templeman


Use a blog to build your profile as a writer.

Whether you are a book author or an aspiring freelance writer, this workshop will give you the online writing techniques you need to bypass traditional media and publish at will, using free tools such as Wordpress to build an audience and your profile as a writer.


Learning Outcomes:

You will improve your writing skill-set through practical exercises and group discussions in the key areas listed below:

  • Discuss what writers can use a blog for

  • Discuss what makes a good writer’s blog

  • Learn how to develop your ‘writing voice’ for a blog

  • Learn how to choose strong blog topics

  • Learn how to structure blog posts

  • Learn about SEO and how it can help your blog succeed

  • Discuss how to gain a loyal blog following and keep them


Format:

This is a workshop for intermediate and emerging writers to help build engagement with their audience. More information on program formats and level definitions can be found here.


About Tiana Templeman:

Dr Tiana Templeman is an award-winning freelance travel journalist, author, academic and tutor at Queensland University of Technology. She is an experienced corporate trainer and has developed and delivered writing training for Australia’s leading writers’ centres and corporate organisations. Tiana contributes to a diverse range of publications from The Australian to Cruise Critic, QANTAS Travel Insider and the NZ Herald. She holds a Master of Creative Industries and a PhD on ‘Freelance Journalism in the 21st Century.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Unless otherwise stated, Queensland Writers Centre workshops and events are suitable for participants aged 16 years and over. If you are under 18 years of age, please check with us for suitability before purchasing a ticket.

Membership and concession tickets will be confirmed on arrival.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

What can I bring into the event?

You can bring either pen and paper or a laptop along with you to write with. If you do bring a laptop, please remember to bring a power adaptor if necessary.

Will this event be livestreamed?

Queensland Writers Centre aims to provide material to its members regardless of where they reside within Queensland by livestreaming some events. Attendees may be broadcast periodically throughout the event as recording takes place. If you wish not to be filmed, let staff know prior to the event.

What's the refund policy?

If Queensland Writers Centre cancels an event, we will try to reschedule it for a later date. If we cannot reschedule the event, or if you are unable to attend on the amended date, your payment will be refunded in full.
Except in special circumstances, if you cancel a booking for, or are unable to attend an event, workshop, seminar, or course, Queensland Writers Centre cannot provide a refund. You can contact us to discuss your situation on 07 3842 9922 or email us at admin@qldwriters.org.au
