Description

Are you hoping for a natural birth, but don't know how to prepare? Unsure of how things will unfold on the day? Lacking the skill of being a good support person? Scared about birth from the stories you've heard, things you've read or what you've seen?

Has your birth preparation so far been from watching TV documentaries or stories from well-meaning family and friends, which has left you believing birth is scary and painful?

Do you want to know the truth about labour, birth and early parenting from a qualified midwife, childbirth educator and hypnobirthing practitioner? With over 13 years experience as a midwife in both public and private hospitals, in metropolitan and regional settings, as well as teaching hospital and independent birthing classes - Debra brings a comprehensive, yet light-hearted style to preparing for birth.

The four x 2 hr sessions cover:

1. Your Birthing Muscle

Setting the scene for birth preparation. This session starts with how your uterus works in labour and the importance of a positive mind and a healthy body. We begin to explore the role of the birth support person and how important this role is.

2. Hormones are your Helper

Every birthing mother has the innate skills to cope with labour. This session looks at how to tap into nature's resources. With an introduction to a whole range techniques - giving a birthing couple plenty of "homework" to do in preparation for birth. After all - if you want an important event in life to go smoothly - you need to put some work into the preparation.

3. Call the Doctor

At times there are special circumstances when medical assistance is necessary. If and when we need help during labour and birth it is vital to know what to expect. This session de-mistifies and normalises the choice for medical pain relief, including epidural. Induction of Labour, as well as instrumental and caesarean birth, is covered

4. Parenting 101

When your beautiful baby arrives in your arms for the first time, s/he is awake and alert for the first 2 hours. What special things happen in this time and what do you need to know? How to you prepare for a new baby in your lives? This can be a very time, but with some understanding of what is "normal", makes it
