About this Event
Biochar for Beginners is a two part course on making Biochar, presented by Brian Lewis from Maccy Biochar.
Dates: Saturdays 13th and 20th March 10am – 12pm
Location: Activity Shed of Duck Flat Community Garden, located behind Mount Barker Hospital.
Biochar is a form of charcoal and is good for the soil, good as an animal feed supplement, has numerous industrial uses and combats climate change by sequestering carbon.
Course content topics include: Biochar terminology; definition of biochar; how it differs from charcoal; Terra Preta soils; physical characteristics; chemical composition; types of biochar – raw, enhanced, activated; soil applications; special purpose applications; production methods; packaging and storage. Analysis of bulk density and composition. Introduction to carbon accounting & emissions trading.
