Bill McKibben Live Broadcast - Global Warming: Do The Maths
Wednesday, 5 June 2013 from 5:15 pm to 7:30 pm (AWST)
San Francisco, California, USA
London, United Kingdom
Bill McKibben, award-winning author, educator, environmentalist and co-founder of 350.org is coming to Perth via live broadcast.
“Climate change is basically a big maths problem, involving the quantity of carbon we wish to burn and the capacity of the atmosphere to contain it. The question is—how much more can we burn before we’re in trouble?”
Australia’s continued expansion of coal mining and export is of concern to one of the world’s leading environmentalists, Bill McKibben. Is this one of a handful of projects in the world that would take the planet beyond the point of no return to irreversible climate change?
At this event we'll hear Bill’s clear-eyed view of the global warming maths and learn about his grassroots advice about how to fix the equation. The live broadcast is brought to you by 350 and a coalition of Perth environmental and social justice organisations who recognise that climate change is our biggest problem and we need to work together for solutions starting now (more like yesterday, but time travel is way down the list of priorities right now).
You're invited to join us post-event to share ideas for inspiring action here in boom town, the emissions capital of Australia. Bring a plate and we can feast and chat and make things happen.
Why a live broadcast?
There's been huge demand for Bill to visit Perth on his Australian speaking tour, but from an emissions perspective it's not really viable. UNLESS WE GO DIGITAL! We'll see Bill in Canberra, they'll all see us in Perth. It's like magic.
So that's what this coalition of 350, AYCC, Gamechangers Global Climate Initiative, ARTillery, and No Fracking Way is dedicated to creating for you, the people of Perth.
We are very fortunate to have Central Institute of Technology on board to assist us with a venue for this event. Your Live Broadcast will be held in the upstairs Lecture Theatre at CIT's East Perth campus. We'll help you find it from the main entrance.
We're also on the lookout for more groups to join our coalition! Email email@example.com.
