Event description

Description

This 3 hour practical cycle skills training session is commissioned by the City of Maribyrnong. This session will be run from St Augustine's Primary School, 65 Somerville Road, Yarraville 3031 and in the surrounding streets.

This course is for adults who live, work or study in Maribyrnong and who are confident, regular riders keen to brush up on bike control skills and improve on-road riding techniques. At the start of the course, you will be asked to demonstrate your bike-riding competence in key skills such as head-checks, signalling and using gears. These basic skills are a pre-requisite for this course.

The comprehensive training course covers bike set-up, safety checks, bike handling and traffic riding skills - and promotes safe and responsible bike riding. After the initial assessment the group will go for a ride on local roads with and without marked bicycle lanes. Instructors will lead the group to visit intersections and roundabouts, and will demonstrate how to cross train/tram tracks and do hook (two-part right) turns.

There will be a focus on planning routes, riding assertively and correct road positioning.

Maximum of 7 places. Cost per person $10 or $5 concession.
