Event description
Big Science- hear from experts in an exclusive panel discussion on funding & collaboration in multidisciplinary, multi-institutional Science

About this event

You voted - we deliver. Spice up your daily lockdown routine with this exclusive panel discussion on 'Big Science' (think Human Genome project) focusing on funding and collaboration - the top picks from our Twitter poll.

We will explore how to build large research-industry joints, hubs and centers; and hear the do's and don'ts when it comes to funding and managing multidisciplinary and inter-institutional Science projects.

Learn from our panel of 5 highly renowned and influential speakers from industry, academia & government with a track record in receiving and distributing large funds, facilitating and managing large Science and industry projects.

Our panelists are:

  • Prof Ian O'Hara: Deputy Director of the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane and a Biofutures Industry Envoy.
  • Dr. Natalie Curach: Manager of strategic partnerships of Bioplatforms Australia, Co-Chair for the Global BioFoundry Alliance and President of Synthetic Biology Australasia.
  • Prof Mark Hutchinson: Director of the Centre for Nanoscale BioPhotonics and President Elect at Science & Technology Australia.
  • Paul Howdle: Mentor & angel investor for clean tech companies, consultant on sales strategy, alliance strategy and raising capital.
  • Dr. Deborah Hailstones: Manager Science Strategy, Chief Scientist Branch at NSW DPI.

For good, impactful science you need funding and an effective team. So join us on this virtual event evening (6-8 pm) on Thursday the 5th of August and hear from our experts in this field.

This panel discussion will be as informative for a student or ECR wanting to thrive within a large Science project (or build one himself one day), as for the PI that finds himself with a great idea and ambition and in need of funding and collaboration, as for the director of existing Science hubs.

Plus there will be a great prize to win:

The attendee with the greatest engagement in our panel discussion will be awarded a Twist DNA Synthesis voucher by Decode Science.

We are sponsored by the SBA, NEB Biolabs, the ARC Centre of Excellence Synthetic Biology (CoESB) and Twist/Decode Science. A big thank you to all our sponsors!!!
