Zero Carbon Australia Land Use Report

MELBOURNE LAUNCH

(invitation only)

We are delighted you can join BZE at a premiere event in Melbourne where we will be unveiling this ground-breaking new report.

The evening will involve a presentation of the key findings from the Zero Carbon Australia Land Use: Agriculture and Forestry report, followed by a Q & A session with an expert panel to discuss issues relating to implementation as well as social and economic opportunities.

Panellists include:

  • Professor Craig Pearson (The University of Melbourne)
  • John Pettigrew (Goulburn Valley fruit grower, President Goulburn Valley Environment Group)
  • Professor Kate Auty (Former Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability Victoria)
  • Andrew Longmire (Project Director, Land Use: Agriculture and Forestry report)
  • Dr Chris Taylor (Honorary Research Fellow, Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute)

Our report shows that Australia's land use sector can take a lead role in addressing climate change.

Come along to hear how:

  • Net zero emissions can be achieved through limited revegetation and changes to some agricultural activities
  • Revegetation can provide an alternative revenue stream for farmers
  • Eucalypt forests can sequester 7,500 million tonnes of carbon dioxide if left to recover from clearfell logging

The Zero Carbon Australia Land Use Report is a joint project between Beyond Zero Emissions and The University of Melbourne's Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute (MSSI). It was made possible by the generous support of a private donor and significant additional assistance from MSSI.
