Description

The NSW Disability Network Forum invites you to attend the "Beyond accommodation: Housing that works for people with disability" forum, to be held on 2 December 2015.

Beyond accommodation is an event that will highlight how with the right support, people with disability can access an array of housing options that will give them real choice and control in their lives. Enabling this choice and control will take thinking and policy responses that go beyond old models of supported accommodation and what is often termed ‘disability housing.’

The program has been designed to encourage a more inclusive view of how housing can be built to respond to a diverse range of needs in the community. Making buildings and homes that can respond to diversity encourages real inclusion and a rich community. Participants will hear from people with disability about what has worked for them and how low expectations of their abilities have previously shaped their living environments.

Why it's important to attend

Decisions about housing infrastructure are being made every day – in both private and public sectors. People with disability have expertise about housing that works for them and maximises choice and control in their lives

Investments in housing involve huge injections of funds. It is important that this funding facilitates housing that aligns with current policy and program aims to create communities that are more inclusive of people with disability.

We want to encourage future decisions on housing that go beyond traditional responses like supported accommodation and encourage housing options that enable people to live a good life.

Come and hear from various people with disability, housing providers and people with policy expertise about how this is happening now.

Audience - who we would like to attend

  • People in State and Federal Government who make decisions about housing investments, policy and programs;
  • Private developers who may see the NDIS and other changes as an opportunity to increase the accessibility of their developments;
  • People from NSW Government whose roles relate to the Disability Inclusion Planning Processes of their agencies;
  • Planners in local government;
  • Community and Social Housing Providers; and
  • Those involved in the delivery of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The DNF believes NSW planning frameworks are an integral enabler in making NSW a more inclusive place through the building of infrastructure (including accessible housing) that works for people with a range of needs.

Spaces are limited so BOOK NOW to avoid disappointment.

NCOSS thanks KPMG for its support.
