Event description

Description

Legal concepts, terminology and systems differ greatly between jurisdictions, cultures and languages. Add to that the specialist jargon used in the legal sectors and lack of English language skills in many diverse communities in Victoria and what you get is a triple access barrier to legal information and legal services. The presentation will cover how to make information more accessible to CALD communities, how to write for translation and how to disseminate the translated information effectively.

About Eva Hussain

Eva Hussain is a translator and interpreter and speaks several languages. Eva founded Polaron, a language services provider in 2000 and has been managing the steady growth of the company as its CEO. Some of her previous roles include management and operations of a telecommunication provider and administration of a local government’s aged and disability department. Eva’s voluntary roles include founding member of Australasian Association of Language Companies, deputy president of the Australian Society of Polish Jews and secretary of Polish Community Services of Victoria.

Please note: Due to the popularity of these workshops priority will be given to people involved in the production of community legal information and foundation grant recipients.
