Better Births Workshop: Active birth skills and supporting your partner
Event Information
About this event
Calling all expectant mums and your support people! Come join us to learn the essentials of Active Birth Skills.
Are you pregnant or supporting someone who is? Now is the time to find out about active birth skills, and how they can help make your labour more comfortable and productive.
Active birth has proven links to labours which are shorter, less painful and requiring less intervention. Rather than lying down during labour, active birth encourages expectant mothers to move and use gravity to assist with the birth of their baby. There isn't one right way to birth actively, it's all about what feels right for you and your partner.
This workshop will be led by Fiona Reid, a midwife with over 30 years experience.
In this workshop we'll explore:
• Benefits of active birth
• Active birth positions which can help during labour
• How to use props during labour such as birth balls, mats and slings
• Making the most of your birth environment (at hospital or home) during active birth
• How partners or support people can help during active birth
Every pregnancy, labour and birth is different, so even if you're not a first time parent this workshop will give you ideas and tools on how to make positive changes to your experience.
Light snacks will be provided.
Spaces are limited, so we'd encourage you to book early. Please bring a mat or cushion for your comfort as we will be doing some floor based activity.
