Event description

Description

Six of the best in a swoon programme of song will drive away winter blues at the second Cool & Classic Concert for 2017 at the Kenmore Uniting Church on Sunday, July 23rd at 2pm. This concert will showcase six of the Queensland Conservatorium’s most outstanding voice students with a programme of all your favourite songs

Just two of the high quality young performers are tenor Iain Henderson and soprano Anna Stephens. Iain was recently awarded Best British Musician at the International Music Competition and Anna performs as a soloist with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, Brisbane’s Underground Opera Company and the 7 Sopranos.

Anna has just returned from studying with Susan Waters at the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Iain will in a few months be relocating to Manchester, UK, on a scholarship to do an intensive Masters at the Royal Northern College of Music. At the Kenmore concert, Iain will be joined by baritone Oliver Boyd to sing the well-loved duet “In the Depths of the Temple” from Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers. Anna will sing arias by Puccini and Offenbach and duets from The Magic Flute, Call Me Madam and The Phantom of the Opera. She and Annika Hinrichs will present the exquisite “Flower Song” duet from Lakme by Delibes.

Mezzo Naomi Bakker will sing the “Habanera” from Carmen and tenor Tomasz Halownia will present yet another favourite from South Pacific. Some other all-time favourites will be on the musical menu, particularly choruses by the singers in ensemble.

As well as the stars of the future singing in the programme, Jillianne Stoll, a professional repetiteur since 1984, will be the accompanist. She has worked in Opera companies around Australia, travelled to the UK and Italy on a Churchill Fellowship and works regularly with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

As usual, these talented musicians will meet with the audience at the afternoon tea after the concert. All this for $30 and concessions. Tickets are available online through Eventbrite at www.kenmoreuca.org.au, or at the Refreshed Shop at the church each weekday morning, or the Office Thursdays and Fridays. Ph. 3378 4505 or Rosemary A.H. on 3378 4436 for information. .
