Event description

Description

We know that there is a large East-West divide in heat in Sydney. However, when we’re planning Campbelltown’s future communities, we haven’t had the data to understand heat locally.

During the summer of 2018/2019, Campbelltown City Council, in partnership with Western Sydney University, undertook a study examining the distribution of heat across the Local Government Area. This study involved the placement of 110 temperature sensors and produced over 1.46 million measurements.

The aim of this study was to give us a detailed, data-supported understanding of heat in our LGA. We wanted to include our people, their houses, their suburbs, their topography and their local environment in the science.

We are excited to announce that the findings of the study are now available in a report titled - Benchmarking heat across Campbelltown.

Please join us for a small industry briefing where you will hear from Dr Sebastian Pfautsch, Senior Research Fellow from Western Sydney University. Dr Pfautsch will provide an overview of the findings, including what they mean to Campbelltown and its community.

You will also hear a keynote address from Kristin Gabriel, Deputy Chief Resilience Officer who will set the scene as to why understanding heat is so important, particularly in creating communities that thrive.

If you have any enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact Council’s Sustainability and Resilience Coordinator, Kelly Williamson on 4645 4195 or by email at kelly.williamson@campbelltown.nsw.gov.au.

A final agenda will be provided closer to the date.
