Description

Being Frank is an engaging and interactive live theatre performance

Written by Chris Summers; Directed by Suzanne Chaundy; Produced by Deakin University in partnership with Transgender Victoria

Being Frank presents one young person’s (fictional) experience of coming out as transgender, and the accompanying issues faced by Frank, his family and his friends.

It is intended to promote awareness, empathy and discussion, with a view towards promoting acknowledgement, acceptance and affirmation and valuing of trans and gender diverse people within society.

Unfortunately, societies, communities, groups and individuals don’t always act in ways that protect and support the dignity and rights of all individuals and groups.

Those groups who are often discriminated against, including trans and gender-diverse people, display amazing resilience, energy and activism in creating for themselves, the lives that they want, and contributing richly to thriving and diverse communities and society throughout Australia.

Affirmation and support from families, friends, services and the wider community, when it is available is important and valued.

Each and all of us can make a difference by how we behave in the different settings of our lives, helping us to move towards a welcoming and inclusive Australia that lives up to the Aussie value of a ‘fair go for all’.
