Full of subtle harmonies, rich textures and innovative settings, Beethoven’s remarkable settings of traditional Scottish folksongs masterfully capture the essence of the original while making them inimitably his own.
Commissioned by a Scottish publisher for at-home performance by young ladies, they proved to be far too difficult for their intended performers. Characteristically, he refused to modify them, and so despite forming the largest body of his choral works they fell to the wayside over time.
Discover these still too little-known gems as they are brought to life in a fittingly intimate performance at Elgee Park Gallery.
