Event description

Description

This one-day course is focused on Autumn beekeeping with both regular Langstroth and Flow hives. Topics will include bee genetics, raising queens, harvesting wax, re-queening and preparing hives for winter. It is suitable for those who have previously attended a beginners’ beekeeping course or those who already manage their own hives. It is also suitable for new or prospective beekeepers who are considering enrolling in a beginners' course at a later date.

The course has been developed from, and is consistent with, core and elective units of Beekeeping Certificate III.

Course delivery

  • The course will be conducted at the Collingwood Children’s Farm and its apiary. Go to www.facebook.com/collingwood.bees to view the apiary in operation and to see how it is used to teach practical beekeeping.

  • The course will be conducted on Sunday 15th March 2020. It will commence at 9 am (with registration from 8:30) and conclude at 5:00 pm.

  • All beekeeping personal protective equipment will be provided at the apiary. For biosecurity reasons students will not be permitted to bring and use their own equipment.

Cost

  • The cost of the course is $150. If you also enrol in our 2020 Summer Hands-on Beekeeping course, you will receive a $10 refund. To enrol in the Summer course, click here.

  • Included in the cost will be course notes, a memory stick of beekeeping resources, and morning tea and afternoon.

  • Lunch will not be provided but it can be purchased at a number of nearby venues.
