Event description

Description

During autumn and into winter, rates of pasture growth and new leaf emergence can drop to such low levels that paddock feed can easily be exhausted, resulting in overgrazed pastures and the need for supplementary feeding.

The term ‘feed wedge’ is where a good good grazing rotation is established. The paddocks ready for grazing have more pasture available per hectare and represent the ‘fat’ end of the pasture wedge.

Topics for discussion include:

* Building a feed wedge, or surplus feed, leading into winter
* Improving winter growth rates of existing pastures
* Using supplementary feed

Presenter: Andrew Speirs of Meridian Agriculture has an extensive agronomic background that ranges from specialist skills in soil analysis interpretation to research trials involving fertiliser and plant species as well as practical whole farm management approach.

Registration is free although Call and/or data costs may apply
