Description

Opens: Friday 3 May 6 pm

Parlance and poetry by the artists

If you see a group of women diving into a skip full of old furniture, a Corolla with its boot open near old chairs on a footpath, or a tatty ottoman being fought over in your favourite op shop, do not despair. It is not a crime spree sweeping Adelaide. There is another exhibition in the offing for the ladies of Class Act.

Driven by images of chaise lounges, pouffes, velvet armchairs, and antique carver chairs, not only pins and fabric but hammers, pliers and upholsterers’ tacks now litter studio floors.

We are aware that kneeling or sitting on the ground is an option, but we prefer to save our knees and use those inestimable items designed for one’s derriere. Join us to see what can be done with applique, stitch, felt, fibre, recycled jeans and repurposed textiles on these vital pieces of furniture.

Be Seated is an exhibition by the artist’s group Class Act Collective. A group of eclectic artists drawn together by their love of textiles and passionate interest in contemporary art practice have exhibited together for the last nine years. We support, inspire and motivate each other. We meet every month, conduct workshops, visit other artist’s studios, and embark on exciting excursions – whether it is scavenging in op shops, viewing exhibitions, such as SALA and the Fringe, pleasure is always had in each other’s company.
