Be Connected Tech Help @ Stirling Libraries - Scarborough
Weekly on Fridays, choose one time slot:
- 1.30pm - 2.00pm
- 2.00pm - 2.30pm
Bring your own device (smartphone / iPad / tablet / laptop) or learn on one of the library computers.
Bookings are essential as places are limited. Maximum 1 x 30-min session per person, per week and 12 sessions per year across the library service.
This program is suitable for adults who are beginner level only (learning basic digital skills).
Please contact the libraries asap if you are unable to attend your appointment time slot to allow someone else to attend in your place.
Digital Mentors can assist adults with learning basic digital skills, including:
- Registering as a learner on the Be Connected website and accessing the free online activities
- Basic device use (smartphones, iPads/tablets, laptops, computers)
- Basic program/app use (web browser, word processing, email)
- Basic internet searching (keyword searches, navigating websites, bookmarking favourite websites)
- Basic email assistance (creating an email account, accessing your emails, sending/receiving, attaching documents to an email)
- Basic online safety (creating strong passwords, useful eSafety websites)
- Basic online forms (searching for the right form, navigating online forms)
- Library membership queries and accessing the Digital Library eResources
Please note: Digital Mentors cannot assist with:
- Job applications
- Online training courses/inductions
- Formatting/editing documents or emails
- Completing online forms
- Running software updates
- Troubleshooting hardware and software problems
- Intermediate or advanced-level computer, device or software training
- Buying and selling online
- Building websites
- Connecting to home internet/Wi-Fi
What is Be Connected?
Be Connected is a free online learning resource from the Australian Government and eSafety Commissioner that is designed to help older Australians to improve their confidence with using technology and learn basic digital skills.
Be Connected programs are funded by Good Things Foundation and the Australian Government Department of Social Services. Participants' contact details will be added to the Good Things Network: Be Connected Learning Management System. The details will be used for tracking your progress against funded learning programmes run by Good Things Foundation, reporting and improving products in line with their privacy policy. They will be shared between Stirling Libraries, Good Things Foundation and The Australian Government Department of Social Services. Your details will never be sold on to any other third parties.
