Lynne Britten is a Textile Artist. She specialises in the application of dyes and pigments to fabric and yarns through such techniques as shibori, batik and block printing. Lynne taught the lady-like accomplishments of knitting, crochet and hand embroidery at an early age and then went off on a tangent… dyeing offcuts of worn out cotton sheets with mulberries! A Diploma of Visual Arts (majoring in textiles) and Graduate Dip of Education (Art) followed – then 10 years in the fashion industry as a Textile Designer working closely with the screen printers. Picking up her Dyeing Certificate and Patternmaking Certificate from TAFE along the way.

Since March 2007 Lynne has also been the owner of “Batik Oetoro” retailing supplies and giving technical advice to other textile artists, hobbyists and education institutions across Australia and internationally.

  • Use different wax application tools including tjantings, tjaps, brushes etc.
  • Use cold water fibre reactive dyes in two ways – immersion and hand painting – and fix dyes.
