Explore the theme of night sky during the Summer School Holiday! Join us for a series of creative workshops led by contemporary artists and poets from Bankstown Poetry Slam at Bankstown Arts Centre.

Selected poetry and zine created at the workshops will be featured in the next edition of Westside Jr in 2017 - a Bankstown Youth Development Service publication.

Youth Poetry Out Loud Workshop

Have something to say? Explore your dreams and imagination stories of the night. Express your ideas through haiku, limericks, prose, free-verse and several other poetic styles.This workshop focuses on building creativity and self-expression through the art form of poetry.

Youth Rdical Zine workshop

Session: 2-4pm

Zines have historically given voice to the marginalised and brought people together. Come with an open mind and plenty of ideas. Use the poetry you wrote at the last session, create a zine with a difference using collage, photography, drawing, and words.

Age: 9-14 years

Workshop Cost: Two-day Poetry and Zine workshop - $20

At the workshop:

  • Wear comfortable clothes and enclosed shoes
  • Bring a bottle of water, snack is optional (no nut products)
  • For parents/guardians - drop off your child inside the workshop class room 15 mins before commencement of workshop and pick up your child at the end of the workshop. We do not provide child minding after the workshop.
  • We do not allow adults present at the workshop apart from our facilitator for safety reasons.


What are my transport/parking options getting to the workshops?

There is a 4hr community carpark next to Bankstown Arts Centre on Olympic Parade. Other community parking are within walking distance. Please visit for more information inregards to parking.

Bankstown Arts Centre office opens Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, please contact us on 9707 5400 for for all enquries.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the workshops?

No need to printout your ticket, just arrive 5 mins early to get your name tick off at the workshop. Parents and guardian need to drop off and collect your child inside the workshop room.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

No. Unfortunately, you can't transfer the ticket to another person. You will need to register the participant with full details. We require correct contact information in case of emergency.
