“Dim, grey moonlight splashes the ocean's surface. A still night; soundless, broken only by the soft whistle of the wind and the futile lashings of small waves against the massive, dark hull of the submarine.
Within the sub, diodes whir and click and beep and fall silent again. The cavernous chambers inside seem not to acknowledge nor care for the vast expanse of cold water surrounding. The halls are calm yet foreboding.
The vessel heaves before dipping deep, deep below the silvery surface. Slowly at first, the descent passes common fish and sad pieces of discarded plastic.
More rapidly, into darkness: An orca, glowing coral, shipwrecks... murkiness...
Faster and faster, deeper and deeper still!
The impossible unknown surrounds. Blackness thicker than ink or tar. Your emotions are primitive and simple. The Submarine continues unfazed.
At last, far below, deeper than any man has ever gone before. Deeper than any man could even come to believe possible: A light. Gleaming pillars of chrome come into focus; a seductive glow draws you in. The submarine slows on approach, as if it were to be appreciating the moment of arrival.
A bustling underwater city built from unknown metals upon foreign deep-sea flora. The water pulses rhythmically here, growing more pronounced as you near the buildings. Amphibious creatures swirl around the ship.
Inquisitive, alien eyes peer in.
You peer out.
The submarine docks.
Ripples vibrate.
Your body shakes.
Stairs descend.”

We acknowledge this event is held on unceded Whadjuk Noongar land. While we can never fully repay the debt left before us, we would like to pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of the past, present, and future and offer our support towards their fight against ongoing injustices.
