Description

All programs are free. Bookings are essential.

Pen Hanley is a communications expert with over twenty-five years of experience as an author, researcher and editor. Her published work spans a breadth of achievement in fiction—including her latest novel After She Left (Impact Press, 2019) and 20 short stories—and major non-fiction commissions including Inspiring Australians, a history of fifty years of the Churchill Memorial Trust (2015) and Creative Lives for the National Library of Australia (2009).

In her latest novel "After she left" Deirdre O’Mara, a young Irish woman, arrives in Sydney’s The Rocks in 1927 and makes an impact on conservative society with her bohemian ways and surrealistic paintings. Just after the Second World War, Dierdre leaves for Europe, leaving behind her estranged daughter and a family secret. Years later, her granddaughter Keira is determined to uncover the secret, despite her mother’s objections. She uncovers more than she bargained for.
