Event description

Description

*Please note: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Peter Greste has had to postpone this event. The new date is Thursday 12 July, 6-7pm at Brisbane Square Library.*

Join Peter Greste for this special event presented as part of the Lord Mayor’s Writers in Residence series.

Peter Greste spent two decades reporting from the front line in the world’s most dangerous countries before making headlines himself following his own incarceration in an Egyptian prison. Charged with threatening national security, and enduring a sham trial, solitary confinement and detention for 400 days, Peter himself became a victim of the new global war on journalism.

Based on extensive interviews and research, Peter’s book The First Casualty shows how the war on journalism has spread to the West. Featured in the 2018 edition of Brisbane Libraries’ Top 40 Book Club Reads, this courageous, compelling and vital account unpicks the extent to which modern investigative journalism is under threat, and the fraught quest – and desperate need – for truth in the age of terrorism.

Peter will discuss the ideas he explored through his research and share his experiences writing The First Casualty.

Books will be available for purchase on the night, or bring your copy from home for Peter to sign.
