Description

In response to COVID-19 we are adapting the Waverley Library Author talk series to be delivered as an online talk live. These talks will take place through Zoom. Your zoom link will be emailed to you within 2 hrs of the event starting.

Author Katherine Firkin will discuss the nature of crime in Australia particularly the growing wave of violence against women, the vicious cycle of drugs, homelessness, neglect and mental health and the impact these factors can have on shaping criminal identities.

With years of experience, Katherine will also delve into the not-so-pretty truths about crime and court reporting revealing most of the graphic details that come out in the courtroom are not released to the wider public. Audiences will get an inside look at crime reporting and the impact that these cases had on Katherine and why it inspired her to delve deeper into these issues.

Katherine's debut novel Sticks and Stones is a gritty and thrilling read set amidst inner-city Melbourne and is inspired by the countless criminal trials she covered as a crime and court reporter. This is a night for all crime fiction and true crime lovers.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions to Katherine after the talk. To get a copy of Katherine's book Sticks and Stones go to our local book seller Gertude & Alice.

NB Only 1 ticket per screen is needed.
