About this event

The Australian Resource Sector Professionals Speaking to STEM students event is proposed to assist students to learn about the resource sector and challenges and opportunities the sector faces. It is designed to facilitates employment opportunities and internships for students at the same time help industry to learn about RMIT Students, their inspirations, and skills and open more opportunities for RMIT students. Students will learn about various mega projects across Australia and globe, significant progress by the sector towards suitable environmental management practices, recognition of indigenous culture and heritage. Please register early to this event as places limited to 80 people.

Mr Richard Owen will speak in behalf of the sector. Richard is currently serving as a director with Offshore & Specialist Ships Australia (OSSA). Richard is the former President of the Australian Resource and Energy Employer Group (AREEA). He is a past board member of the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia. Richard is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and the Institution of Chemical Engineers, a Life Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, an honorary life member of APPEA, and a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In June 2021, Richard was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.
